The Round House is hand-built, from the cedar shake exterior to the pine and cedar interior. Large two story windows fill the great room with sunlight. It is located at the end of a half mile private road, and is totally secluded.

Our guests rave about the quiet and peaceful atmosphere. One of our guests said in the guestbook: ?We leave here a changed people. The peace is consuming. The beauty immense. The sounds refreshing. Thank you for reviving my soul.?

Pet friendly Your dog will enjoy romping and exploring the woods and fields surrounding the cabin.

Amenities We offer amenities comparable to a boutique hotel ? crisp hand ironed sheets and pillow cases, handsome comforters on the beds, fluffy towels and natural soap. We do our own laundry, without the harsh chemicals and industrial finishing of a commercial laundry.

Cozy living room with fireplace Relax in the living room before a sparkling fire, surrounded by warm pine paneling with cedar trim. We supply local seasoned hand split hardwood, kindling, newspaper and fire lighter.

Fully equipped kitchen Prepare your family meals in our well stocked kitchen. We include flatware and china, wine glasses, coffee maker and filters.

Dining room seats up to 12 guests Enjoy your meals gathered around the large dining room table . . . or make it a game table or jigsaw puzzling table for great family memories.

Free WiFi for email or light browsing; not for streaming movies of the like.

Entertainment We have a flat screen TV with satellite service and a DVD player. Bring your own movies.

Deck Out on the deck overlooking the woods is a gas grill and table and chairs for dining and lounging. Have your meals on the sun-dappled deck (weather permitting). We do not have a hot tub.

Outdoor fire ring In the evening, start a fire in the fire pit by the barn and roast marshmallows. Star gaze from the big field next to the cabin, where the Milky Way shines across the sky.

Immerse yourself in nature Your children will be intrigued to stay in a cabin surrounded by woods. Stroll over to the log barn where you enjoy a spectacular view of the Appalachian foothills in the distance. Walk up our woodland path to the cave. Bring a flashlight to explore the cave.

About Adams County:
Adams County is one of the most beautifully scenic counties in Ohio. The Great Serpent Mound is the largest effigy mound in the country. The Amish community offers shops and tidy well kept farms. The southern boundary is the Ohio River, with gorgeous views, fishing and boating. Nature Conservancy?s Edge of Appalachia Preserve and numerous state natural areas showcase the county?s unique features.

Suggested activities:
Visit the Great Serpent Mound and its visitor center. Check out the Wheat Ridge Amish community shops and well kept farms. Travel the Quilt Barn Trail and see the rural countryside by car. Follow the ride of Confederate John Hunt Morgan and his Raiders through Adams County in 1863.

In neighboring Brown County, visit the boyhood home of US Grant in Georgetown; see where Liza reportedly crossed the Ohio River on the ice in Uncle Tom?s Cabin. Visit the Rankin House above the Ripley bluff, where lanterns hung to guide slaves escaping across the river from Kentucky.

Hike in one of the many nature preserves and natural areas in Adams County. Our favorites include Chaparral Prairie (a remnant prairie a mile away). Buzzardsroost Trail (a moderately strenuous hike in the Edge of Appalachia Preserve) and Davis Memorial Nature Preserve (features a pristine stream, high rock cliffs and a geologic fault in the cliff face).

Enjoy birding on our farm or in the nature preserves.

Fish our pond (catch and release only), the ponds in Tranquility Natural Area, Adams Lake State Park, Ohio Brush Creek or the Ohio River.

Have dinner at Murphin Ridge Inn or Moyer Winery. Murphin Ridge is an excellent restaurant in an old farm house near the Amish community. Moyer offers fine food in a dining room overlooking the Ohio River.
Area Information
Adams County is home to a large Amish community. The Great Serpent Mound, a world famous prehistoric effigy mound, is located here. The county is known for its quiet rural ambiance, beautiful scenery and the many hiking trails of its nature preserves. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature.

We LOVED our stay at the Round House - this was my second time there and I hope there will be many more! George and Patti have made a beautiful and comfortable place. The scenery is amazing, the house is so beautiful and stocked with everything you could possibly need. I tell all my friends about Cave Hill Cabins :)

We enjoyed the quietness of the area. We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We were indoors for most of the stay and could enjoy the outdoors because of the window view. We saw a woodpecker and other birds in the area.

Beautiful Cabin

April 24, 2015

My two sisters and I took our 16 year old niece for a long weekend getaway. The cabin was very lovely with a beautiful view. It was very clean and had everything we needed. George had met us on the gravel drive up to the cabin and was so friendly. We went sightseeing during the day and hurried back to enjoy the ambiance of the cabin. The deck has an amazing view and even though it was a bit chilly, we enjoyed sitting and relaxing. What we really liked was the authenticity of the cabin - it was not your typical cookie cutter tourist trap. If we ever are traveling to the area again, we would definitely stay there.

Owner's reply:

Thanks, Jane. Glad you enjoyed the place. It's the real thing -- those logs were cut more than 150 years ago and made into a log cabin that stood less than a half mile from where it now is.

The idyllic house sits in the middle of nowhere. Perfect place to get away from everything, and yet it has everything you can possibly need. It's luxury camping with all the ammenities. Beautiful setting, great views with large windows throughout. Great place to relax or get a ton of work completed, or both!

Owner's reply:

Thanks. When we were building this place, my wife insisted that it not just be a hunting lodge for the guys. It had to have a good kitchen, good bathrooms, etc. So she got what she wanted, and I got what I wanted (a house in the woods).

Owner Supplied Testimonials

"Came here with my two dogs to celebrate my 40th birthday. I've never been to such a relaxing and beautiful cabin. We loved hiking through the woods and the meadow and fishing in the pond. Saw the cave, but no way were we going in it! I couldn't believe all the different kinds of fungi that are in these woods! The cabin is beautiful and everything was perfect. My body and soul feels revived, and my dogs and I hate to leave! Thank you for providing such a wonderful retreat!

-- from the guestbook July 2013

"This place is spectacular. It is so peaceful and beautiful. We feel so refreshed. Great Fall weather with our sweet family. We are newlyweds and enjoyed our decision with picking this lodge. Fire, reading, his wine, my tea, dogs playing in the woods, grilling out, trails, games and laughter. Couldn't have asked for a better getaway."

-- from the guestbook November 2013

"Absolutely perfect cabin in a perfect setting! You truly couldn't ask for anything more! The only time we left was to hike to the cave and then to the barn with a stunning view! We loved our time here and very much look forward to returning! Thank you for allowing us to bring our dogs too!"

-- from the guestbook February 2014

"We enjoyed every minute spent in this place! We saw a fox, deer and a noisy woodpecker with a red head! We will definitely be coming back, maybe with the kids! This was the perfect place for our 14th anniversary celebration! Thanks!"
