Description of the Windmill Point vacation cottage rental
"The Bayhouse" is located at beautiful Windmill Point, where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Rappahanock River, on Virginia's beautiful Northern Neck. This area touts the state's best amenities - community events such as the nearby Urbanna Oyster Festival, outdoor recreation including Belle Isle State Park, historical attractions with museums like the Reedville Fisherman's Museum, arts & entertainment, and quaint downtown shopping. In this wonderful vacation cottage, you will enjoy both moon and sun rises that can be viewed from the wide, picture window in the house's living room and fun, screened porch. Grill your catch with the gas grill on the porch, cook in the fully equipped kitchen or dine out at many local restaurants. The living room has a large TV equipped with DirectTV, VHS, and DVD players, along with a movie collection. Central heat/air throughout. Washer & dryer.

This great area is close to all the best amenities - golf at the world renowned Tides Inn, dine at one of the many restaurants located within 15 minutes, rent a canoe and paddle along with the dolphins that play just off-shore, or just relax and enjoy the hundreds of feet of bayfront property that this cottage looks out to.

Tour charming waterfront villages, the Chesapeake Bay, vineyards, or historic homes & gardens. Washington, D.C. 2.75 hrs, Richmond 1.5 hrs, Colonial Williamsburg-Busch Gardens & King's Dominion theme parks. Amazing fishing, boating.

Sleeps up to 10 people with 1 queen, 3 doubles, 1 single, and 2 queen sleeper-sofas.

Area Information
Some things about the area to help you make your decision: The Northern Neck of Virginia is very rich in history and has amazing, quaint little towns that are so fun to explore. The Bayhouse is located in Windmill Point, and is best described as "away from it all". The closest gas station is in White Stone, about 8 minutes down the road. There is a small foodmart with Wonderful, choice foods (great cheeses and meats!) just across the street from this gas station, but the closest large chain-grocery store is in Kilmarnock, about 15 minutes from the The Bayhouse. Kilmarnock also has a Walmart for necessities! While you have to drive to reach places to shop, The Bayhouse is located just steps away from enjoying all the amenities of the private, spacious beaches :-) The waves of the Chesapeake Bay are normally calm and serene, lapping up on the beach - and the only time you ever have larger waves are when there are storms at sea or when a large boat is traveling up the channel (you can see these boats through the telescope in the living room!). But as the Chesapeake Bay is protected from large surf by where it is situated between the Virginia mainland and the Eastern Shore, you will never see waves like you have on the Atlantic Ocean (unless there is a hurricane!). The water can sometimes be so calm that it looks like glass, and makes a great day to kayak, canoe, or speedboat around :-) At other times the surf is up and makes for great fun splashing around on shore or hopping waves on jet skis! We now have a couple of telephone numbers for boat rental businesses in the area and are collecting more for our guests! You'll also enjoy great small-town dining when you want to eat out and we have a list of restaurants in the area with phone numbers, and maps of the area to help you navigate there! The area is well-known for its great fishing and there are also many charter boats that go out for half-day and full-day trips (I totally suggest this - it is so much fun, and the captains Always find where the fish are biting! When our family goes out, we catch enough to keep us fed all week! Croakers, Spot, Spanish Mackerel, White-Striper (Bass/Rockfish), Flounder - and so many more! I love this area, and I'm sure you will love it, too!

A Wonderful Place!

August 24, 2009

We had a wonderful weekend vacation here! The house was very clean and had all the amenities and space we needed. The view was great. You can see the Bay from almost every room in the house. With its private beach and out of the way location, it was the perfect place to relax and unwind. We had fun visiting the quaint Northern Neck towns and it brought back lots of memories of when our grandparents lived in the area. We can't wait to come back again!
