About the area

The wonders of Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula are boundless and virtually undiscovered along the Schoodic National Scenic Byway. The national park's dramatic scenery is among the best in Maine, but still quiet and private, inspiring artists from around the world. You'll find quaint villages with white spires, lobster fleets at rest, galleries, studios, shops, and restaurants in this tiny peninsula. The village of Winter Harbor, with golf course, yacht club, ferry to Bar Harbor, and lobster festival is the home of the nationally known Schoodic Arts Festival with its impressive venue of year-round performing arts and the biennial International Sculpture Symposium.

Getting here

Bar Harbor airport is nearest, though Bangor International is also an option. There's a ferry in nearby Winter Harbor to take you straight to the heart of Bar Harbor, across Frenchman Bay. In Bar Harbor, there are free buses to take you to various parts of the island and park.

Interaction with guest

Cottage is wonderfully secluded and guests enjoy peace, quiet and independence. A notebook on site provides all necessary information about the cottage and surrounding area, though I am, of course, available by text or email if there are any questions.

“The Ideal Secluded Getaway!”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2016

We recently spent a week here and now consider it our favorite getaway! It's not a five-star, plush, all-inclusive resort, but it is a tranquil, secluded, five-star cabin with everything you need to just "enjoy the moment". There really is nothing more you need as the cabin is fully furnished - even with wi-fi that you may want to get away from. The rise and fall of the tide is within feet of your sliding-glass door and the sound of the waves creates total relaxation. At times, fog rolls into the harbor, and the deep bellow of a cruise ship horn in the distance takes you back in time and you absorb the full experience of where you are. Lobster boats leave the harbor like clockwork every morning. Schoodic is within one mile and is the perfect place to escape the hastiness of Bar Harbor. A day-trip up RT1 to Campobello Island in Canada is a must!! The Pickled Wrinkled has great food, is laid-back, and is within 10 minutes. But, then again, just relaxing in the chairs within feet of both your cabin and softly-lapping waves makes it a tough decision to even leave and go anywhere. There is only one drawback to this property = our travel distance to get there!! We are already planning a return. It's too bad it can't be next year. But, it gives us something to look forward to. We WILL be back!!!

Owner's reply: Thank you Mike & Marcy! We look forward to having you come back for another stay!!

This is a very special place. We spent a week here in 2015 and decided we needed to make it 2 weeks in 2014. The cottage is located right on a ledge that gives you the feeling of Acadia Park without the crowds. The biking right out the driveway down around the park and bike trails in the new camp ground can't be beat. Just beautiful location, private, quite with beautiful sunsets. Just a mile from the village so you can bike into town for meals at the local eatery's or get your lobster right off the boat at the Co-op and go back to the cottage to enjoy the lobster and view out the windows. Everything you need is there for cooking, spices, pots and pans. Ferry to Bar Harbor is 1/4 mile up the road so you can take your bikes over, spend some time in the crazy world of Bar Harbor and be back to peaceful Winter Harbor within 45 minutes. We look forward to returning soon.

Beautiful, quiet. comfortable, private, serene, restful, perfect place to relax and slow down. Right on the water which surrounds house. Watch the tide come in and sleep w the sound of water outside your window. Cottage is spacious w three sleeping areas and 2 full baths. Full kitchen and lovely views in all directions. Walk to town of Winter Harbor. You won't want to leave.

“lovely writer's retreat”

My friend and i came up to Winter Harbor to edit each other's writing. We loved our cabin with its glorious full on views of the ocean, the cozy warm beds, the lovely wood floors and furnishings. When it was sunny we worked outside steps away on the rocky shore, when it rained we watched the fog come in with hot tea from the cozy warmth of inside the cabin. The walk to town was perfect, even for my friend--not a big walker, the shops, the library where we were guest speakers, and the little cafes were delightful, have free wi-fi and the best lobster rolls ever. For me, an ocean swimmer the cove was a perfect place for my daily, yes, frigid, swims. I wave to lobster boats as I swim back and forth along the shore. And the price for the cabin was affordable, much cheaper than Bar Harbor, and for me a quieter charm with still all the beauty. Need something--the local five and dime carries almost anything you need and the local IGA is wells ticked and carries local produce and especially good Maine blueberries. But take a walk and pick your own. I did. No need for yoga on berry picking days as you are mostly in a downward facing dog position! In short Sargent street in Winter Harbor is the perfect vacation spot. A short drive takes you to Schoodic Point for the most dramatic views, crashing waves, and seal sightings. I'm going to book now for next year!
