Description of the Woodstock vacation chalet rental
As seen on The Learning Channel's "Family Reunion - Woodstock". Beautiful house on secluded drive...very private but minutes to the center of town in Woodstock, New York!

Gorgeous two-story house with fine stone detail and amazing wood accents. The stone fireplace is massive and anchors the first floor. The wood floors are made of a very non-traditional squared butcher block, rather than typical wood planks. The stone tower and accents in the garden were taken stone by stone from a ruined historic building in CT, and lovingly weaved together to create this one of a kind living art installation by Volovski.

The large open kitchen flows into the dining room, living room and sitting room. Just a step down from the back side of the kitchen is a four-season glass and stone solarium soaking in the southern exposure.

Outside cedar hot tub, two level decks situated on over three private acres...excellent for entertaining or just getting away!

3 Bedrooms, Beds: 3 king, 1 Twin Daybed & 2 queen sleeper sofas.

Area Information
Yes, this is the town that has given its name to music festivals, and has earned a reputation as home to one of the most exciting periods of American popular music. The festivals were actually held elsewhere, but many of the creative people who made them what they were have been part of the charmed life of Woodstock, and some still reside here among our wooded hills.

Another thing that many people don't know is that back in the nineteenth century, long before our present fame, the Woodstock area was known internationally as a center for American artists and craftspeople. Then in 1902 the famed Byrdcliffe arts and crafts colony was established, and shortly afterward the Art Students League of New York City opened a summer school here. Today we are home to galleries that are widely noted for exhibits of the finest arts and crafts. To complete the artistic environment we also have important recital halls upon whose stages distinguished classical, jazz and popular music ensembles regularly perform. Soon we will take pride in adding a new performing arts center. All of this is set amid lovely forested mountains, with some of the most scenic rural vistas to be found anywhere.

Not bad for a little town which began centuries ago as a hub of farming, quarrying and tanning! To this day many of our townspeople are engaged in trades and professions having little to do with art or music, though quite a few are also involved in artistic pursuits. We are carpenters and electricians, maintenance workers and computer programmers, service workers and homemakers. It must be said that the historic relationship between our artists and non-artists has created the social dynamic that allows our town to flourish and earn the fame which has descended upon it.

We have a small but vigorous commercial center dotted with shops, many of which sell unique wares ranging from candles to antiques, and from rare books to unusual crafts. (Someone joked that Woodstock is the place to find a good pair of organic shoelaces.) Our restaurants and cafes offer you fine dining experiences, and you will find some of the quirkiest celebrations in the state (ie. Halloween and Christmas Eve).

Come for a stay, but you may not want to leave!

Great Get Away

March 2, 2012

The house needs some TLC (cosmetic and could have been a little cleaner), but overall we loved the unique design of the house and the spectacular view (even better than expected). The "Tower Deck" photo is actually off the kitchen, and made for a cute and sun-filled eating area. Tower itself was a bit too cold for us to enjoy, but still fun to check out. The hot tub was a highlight for us. Would definitely stay here again.
