In the summer enjoy hiking, fishing, kayaking, tubing, swimming at the 'Big Deep', Cooper Lake, Niobe waterfalls, Esopus Creek, DeWitt Lake and the Mill Stream - are the popular local favorites. Close to the Horse Shows in the Sun (HITS) in nearby Saugerties. Fall Favorites are walking or hiking up Overlook Mt., Wilson State park and of course, the Catskills and the beautiful fall foliage. Getting around

Best way is by car, although there is taxi service (reservations must be made in advance). Trailways bus stop is in Woodstock Town Center which is 3 miles from our cabin.

Getting here

Easily accessed from NYC (about 2 Hours) or Albany (about 1 Hour). Specific instruction will be provided from near your home prior to arrival.

Interaction with guest

When you arrive at our cabin, my sister, Ann (who lives in Woodstock and takes care of the cabin), will have the alarm turned off and the front door will be unlocked. Depending on the weather, the heat or A/C may be on and the flue in the fireplace will be open. (please leave them that way when you leave). The key will be on the small table just inside the door (also, please leave it there when you leave). We will leave the front light on in case you arrive after dark. The internet service is via satellite and is probably slower than you are used to. The network password is “cabinguest.” Let me know if you have any other questions. You can always reach me via email through Vacation Home Rentals, Trip Advisor, Flip

“Quiet and restful getaway”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2017

This was our second long weekend spent at the Artist's Cottage. Really a beautiful place to stay - very clean and comfortable. Nice nearby hikes and close enough to town for shopping and meals out if preferred. Kitchen very nice for staying in too. Will definitely be back.

“Weekend Getaway”

Reviewed 28 Dec 2016

Spent another long weekend at this property and again had a wonderful time. I love being able to bring my dog too! The cabin has every thing you might need and is very comfortable. I look forward to another visit next year! We especially loved the outdoor fire pit on those cool evenings!

“nice home in the woods”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2016

I really don't have much to add...except that I agree with all the other five-star reviews. The place is exactly as pictured. May not be for everyone but if you're looking for an upstate NY getaway at a cozy, unique home in the woods where everything is provided, this rental is for you. The price is right and the owner is nice and on top of emails, etc. We had a roaring fire going each night and it was the perfect destination for Thanksgiving weekend. Would like to return in the summer to take advantage of the nice spaces and seating areas outside the house. Lastly, WiFi worked fine, as did TV and audio equipment.

“Amazingly Beautiful and Serene!”

The cabin is amazing!! It is the perfect mix of updated and original, original artwork adorns the house and has an amazing story attached to it. My wife and I stayed the week and enjoyed local hikes and the beautiful village of Woodstock. The house has everything you need and is very private with gorgeous views from every window. We loved it and would recommend this cabin to everyone.

Owner's reply: Thank you! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed our cabin in the woods. It's a great time of year to be outdoors and enjoy the Catskill Mountains.

“Quiet and relaxing”

This is the second time at the cabin. A very quiet and peaceful setting, very much enjoyed our stay.

Owner's reply: Thank you, I'm glad you had a relaxing weekend.

“Serenity in the Woods”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this gem of a cabin....warm and cozy with all the conveniences we needed. The artwork throughout this home adds to its charm, uplifting one's spirit with a feeling of connection to the artist. Best of all, we were able to share this experience with our sweet dog! While the cabin is secluded, its location is ideal. We found great hiking trails, swimming holes, and plenty to do in the village of Woodstock and the surrounding area.

“Recommended!”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2016

My husband and I have spent many summers in the Woodstock area and must say this year's was most enjoyable. The cabin the was charming and very private, and very close to great food and entertainment. We love to BBQ and had plenty room to enjoy ourselves outside. Our visiting grandson and dog were also happy. The rooms are small, but very comfortable and warm -- the art is great! We felt quite at home and would love to definitely return. It was hard to leave. Thanks!

Owner's reply: Thank You! It's nice to hear that you enjoyed just hanging out at our cabin. It's a great place to lounge around or go exploring with wooded hills and brooks, cliffs and waterfalls (when there's plenty of snow or rain).

“Absolute beauty”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2016

My boyfriend and I had the most amazing weekend. The cabin is gorgeous. 2 bedrooms pretty far apart from another which allows much privacy should a third person visit. There is a lot of privacy on the property and the place is super clean. We felt just at home. The town of woodstock is less than a 10 minute drive. We started a fire and used the grill to cook. Music and all. What an awesome weekend. This place was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. I really hope and plan to do this again! Thank you Jon!

Owner's reply: You're welcome! Sounds like you did a bit of everything. Glad you had such a great time!

“Relaxing family get away”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2016

My wife and I travel to the Catskills every summer with our 2 children so that we can do some hiking. This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It was very clean and a had all the accommodations we were looking for. It is also loaded with tons of great art that my entire family enjoyed. It is conveniently located to downtown Woodstock as well as many of the nearby hiking trails and attractions. At night we were able to have a fire outside, and also sit in the screened in porch. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend the cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay with plenty of privacy.

Owner's reply: It's nice to be at a canon where you can enjoy the outdoors and still have the comforts of home. Thank you!

“Cozy Cabin”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2016

We loved the rustic side of the cabin with the wide floor boards, wooden walls and open shelves. The newer side is very comfortable and well-appointed. Thanks for allowing dogs, our terrier loved the woods, especially the rock ledge above the cabin.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

We had a very romantic weekend at the cottage. Really enjoyed the private location and walking in the woods. Everything was very comfortable and we really enjoyed a big log fire each night. The art work in the cottage was lovely, so varied and interesting. Kitchen was well equipped and easy to use. Really enjoyed all the interesting sights in the village - spent way too much in all the stores! Would love to return for another weekend. Owners were very pleasant to work with - thanks!
