Description of the Xcalak vacation b&b rental
-Sharing the same aquamarine Caribbean waters as Belize, our Sin Duda Villas is an intimate and adventurous small hotel designed by its architect-owner located on Mexico's Caribbean white sands.
-We celebrate our lifestyle of rustic elegance, in concert with Mother Nature. We're energized by 24 hr solar power for our fans and appliances; we collect rainwater in underground cisterns for freshwater use. We choose no television, but have over 2,000 books; our Marine Radio is our most reliable means of communication; phones are radio-based signals, functioning sporadically;our computer signal hums atop palm trees via a LAN system powered by another resort (with diesel generator) to connect our satellite signal.
-Our remote location appeals to those adventurous souls, who choose to be far-far beyond the "madding crowd." -Our guests come back, over and over, to snorkel in clear-blue warm water, kayak beneath ancient mangroves, rise at dawn for birding, scuba with our local dive shop, flyfish the flats of Chetumal Bay. -Our beach is protected by the Meso-American Reef, second in length to Australia's Great Barrier, and now a designated Marine Park so the giant aquarium created by the Reef is teeming with fish.

--Our costs vary by Season & Room or Apartment selection:
HOLIDAYS: 15 December-15 January $90 dbl rm to $125 apt
SPRINGTIME: 15 January-30 April-$84 dbl rm to $120 apt
SUMMERFALL: 1 May-15 December-$75 dbl rm to $114 apt
These costs are without our 10% + 2% Mexican taxes.

--The design of Sin Duda invites our guests into our atmosphere by creating an intimate space around you; with privacy at the end of the day in one or more of our six spaces, each room or apartment has combinations of hand-carved furniture, manipulated & original art.
--Included with all rooms there's a healthy breakfast of hand made granola with cut-up dried Mexican fruits, yogurt, milk and fresh-ground Chiapas Highlands coffee.
--Our staff performs daily housekeeping to keep your pillows plumped; your room fresh; we change our linens every fourth morning (in keeping with our freshwater conservation).

Area Information
The Xcalak Peninsula extends into Belize; but our part of Mexico is separated only by a 1,000-year-old hand-dug canal, so we're definitely at the end.of.the.road!
--Because of our far outpost, the area is not-yet filled with glitter or tourists. The tiny village of Xcalak, populated with a rare mix of Mexicans, the Maya and our scattering of 'gringos' is unique, authentic, exciting, surprising, peaceful and decidedly rewarding -- it's REAL Mexico, never a "resort town."
--The beach road heading north out of Xcalak to the 8 tiny hotels, definitely is--a BEACH ROAD! Periodically (6 yrs now) graded, there are bumpy potholes all along the way, but you just drive very slowly. It seems only the adventurous care enough to step beyond the usual fare, so you'll find those who appreciate adventure, a bit of pampering, much local color, extraordinary and memorable fellow guests, surrounded by tropical colors, white sand and the ultimate Caribbean.
--There's exquisite and exciting birding (we have [Beletsky][Howard and Webb], so you needn't carry your copy. In the jungle, or along the beach road jaguar, peccaries, tapir and "ant bears" wander because the jungle runs to the edge of the wetlands and the long stretches of white sand beach continue north for miles into the Sian Ka'an Biosphere. Behind Sin Duda are freshwater "lakes" with winding river tributaries for exploring and birding beneath tangled mangroves.
--We are but a few of us living here, having chosen one of the last frontiers, the southern tip of Quintana Roo state, next to Belize. Some have little resorts, some part-time folks with private villas, some small restaurants and tiny family stores, a couple of cantinas and Mama Terri's gas station consisting of a bucket and a funnel ... all of us make up "El Vecindario--the Neighborhood." Not many tourists, just visitors, and yes ... it's paradise.
The 5-hour journey from Cancun to arrive at Sin Duda is a transition time, a challenge and a unique experience for those willing to make the effort to find us; and definitely part of the mystery of leaving your world and coming into ours.
