Description from manager

Situated atop Slickrock Mountain in the private, gated, and upscale community of Mountain Air just 30 minutes north of Asheville, Mountain Air Chalet offers a much needed breath of fresh air with its charming interior and spectacular long-range mountain views. In the morning, cook a delicious breakfast in the gourmet kitchen (complete with stainless steel appliances and gas range stove) that you can enjoy at the breakfast nook while sipping coffee and reading the morning newspaper. After breakfast, venture outside to hike or bike in one of the 6 gorgeous and well-maintained parks and trails within the community. While only residents have access to the Mountain Air Community amenities, guests can enjoy the wonderful parks and trails to their heart’s content. Although each park is unique in its own way, all of them boast their share of stunning views, vibrant flora, and thriving fauna.

After exploring the picturesque landscape within the community, travel less than 10 minutes from the gate into the quaint town of Burnsville. Home to the iconic Mt. Mitchell peak, aka the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River, downtown Burnsville is one of the closest towns to Mt. Mitchell, and it’s the location of the corresponding State Park. In addition to this famous trek, the Burnsville area is home to a few other great hiking spots. If you’re interested in chasing waterfalls, try the Roaring Fork Creek Falls trail located at the base of Mt. Mitchell. This brief 0.5 mile trail leads to a stunning 100 ft. cascade and is good for all skill levels. If you’re seeking breathtaking panoramic mountain views, try the moderate Blue Ridge Pinnacle and Rocky Knob trail that winds through a lush forest setting chock full of various regional wildflowers, mushrooms, and birds before bringing you to the pinnacle.

In addition to outdoor activities, Burnsville offers a number of local shopping and dining options all within a peaceful small-town setting. Grab a refreshing lunch at the Garden Deli that serves up a variety of salads, soups, or sandwiches, or grab a savory afternoon snack like the Wind Jammer Wings or Topsail Fish Tacos at the nautically-themed gastropub next door, SnapDragon. While in town, be sure to explore the lively Burnsville art scene. Catch a play at the historic Parkway Playhouse if visiting the area from April to December, visit the Toe River Arts gallery year round, or check out the renowned Penland School of Crafts that boasts 400+ acres and draws more than 1,400 people each year seeking instruction at this famous establishment. Burnsville is also home to the Mount Mitchell Crafts Fair which takes place each August and includes work from over 200 juried crafters.

After a full day of adventure and activities, return home to craft a delicious dinner using the gas grill before sitting down to enjoy it together at the indoor dining table. After dinner, watch the sun set behind the mountains from the open air deck with a glass of wine before getting cozy around the stacked stone fireplace on the screened porch to play a board game or in the living room to stream your favorite movie. Ideal for families and friends seeking a private and relaxing getaway outside of Asheville’s city center, Mountain Air Chalet will provide the safe, scenic, and stylish mountain getaway you’ve been dreaming of!
