“OMG - Just Heaven”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2015

You walk into this charming villa and the most pleasant housekeeper (Bernice) swung open the doors to the deck overlooking the ocean. She then swung open the doors leading out to the pool from the Great Room. She then proceeded to open the window in the kitchen to the ocean - I never enjoyed doing dishes so much in my life - what a view. Both Bedrooms also have doors that open to an amazing ocean view. With all there was to do in St. Kitts (and we did) - i really enjoyed hanging out at the villa with a glass of wine and games on the deck. Everyone was so friendly. We often saw a full rainbow after the rain showers from the deck. Check out Shiggidy Shack for the fire eater show on Thursday. Go to Shipwreck beach for excellent drinks, snorkeling and be entertained by the monkeys. Check out Lions beach for an excellent St. Kitts meal. Want a real St. Kitts experience - check out Coopers Restaurant - excellent food. We also took a ferry to Nevis and explored the island for a day. So much to do there and so relaxing. I have not had a vacation like that in years. Temperature was the same every day and evening - just beautiful. Follow the owner helpful tips for a wonderful visit. Also the neighbors were very helpful and very friendly. Since I work - even on vacation - WiFi is important. I never had any trouble with WiFi. Location was out from the main scene but that made it nice for us. Car rental was easy and there was plenty of bus/van transportation available.

Owner's reply: Thanks for making The King's Retreat your vacation destination! Yes, the being right on the ocean is amazing. Love that you enjoyed exploring the beauty of St. Kitts and had a memorable experience. Come again!

Owner Supplied Testimonials

WE are LOVING your place here! Making ourselves right at home.

It is such a relaxed lifestyle down here and we are enjoying it immensely. We just returned from a wonderful dinner at Ottley Plantation and arrived earlier than our reservation to check out the grounds. Met with Marty one of the family members there who now own the place. Dinner was spectacular! Tomorrow we are going to explore some more of the island and Thursday we are heading to Nevis. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to stay here, we are really blessed.

My wife and I chose the King's Retreat as the perfect getaway for our tenth anniversary. We aren't big on the hustle and bustle of major cities so felt this would be perfect, and it was! The drive from the airport was not too long - 25 minutes - along a scenic drive through the small towns and beautiful coast of the island. Our driver, recommended by the owners, was eager to share his knowledge of the island's history and pointed out interesting tidbits about each town along our route. We were greeted upon our arrival by the wonderful housekeeper. She was extremely helpful, even showed us around town a bit, and provided some background on the area. She showed us her photo album of the local area as it was in the past and shared some interesting history with us. If we needed anything, she was eager to assist. In addition, all of the people we met from the neighboring villas were helpful and eager to make our stay a pleasant one. We spent lots of time reading on the balcony and enjoying the sounds of the surf just below. I snorkeled on the reef just in front of the villa and saw a variety of fish as well as a lobster! We decided not to rent a car and instead used the local driver to take us to town a couple times for groceries as well as doing a sightseeing excursion along the way. We had initially thought about renting a car but had no regrets of our decision to occasionally use a driver instead. It was very cost effective and the personal service was exceptional - on time every time! As for the sights, there is lots of information on the internet and the locals can point you in the right direction. Overall, our vacation was great right down to the great food and friendly service we had in the Basseterre Airport waiting for our flight! I would highly recommend the King's Retreat as a quiet and romantic getaway.

The villa is beautiful, very clean, well furnished and very peaceful. We spent two wonderful weeks soaking up the sun, watching and listening to the sound of the waves lapping under our deck. The view from the deck is fantastic. The reef is right in front and the fisherman were there from dawn to dusk. We bought fresh lobsters they had caught that day to cook on the grill. Wonderful. Many hours were spent watching the Sea Turtles swim in the waves so close that you could almost touch them. One morning we spotted a whale on it's migration. SO COOL! Almost every day there was a rainbow, arching over the nearby islands. I would suggest hiring a driver to take you on a day trip around the Island as there are many beautiful places to see. You don't want to miss any of them. The Village of Dieppe Bay is a wonderful experience. We would love to return.

I stayed here with my parents and girlfriend for a week in late November and really enjoyed myself. The property looks out over the water and we spent a lot of time on the back deck enjoying the view (St. Eustatius is right next door and on clear days you can see several other islands in the distance). The house is located in the northeastern part of the island at the end of a small lane that is right in the middle of the Dieppe Bay neighborhood, and is a short walk to a small beach where locals fish, house their boats, and occasionally come to wash their horses (from the nearby racetrack - can't describe how cool it was to see a thoroughbred from our deck some mornings). We enjoyed exploring this area and meeting the local vendors on a nearby hilltop. We also spent time exploring the island's popular and remote areas by car (very easy to get around and gas is reasonably priced). The local activities and must-see spots we visited included Shipwreck and Lions beaches (great drinks, food and are the favorite hangouts of the local veterinary school students and their dogs J - oh and the monkeys were hilarious to watch!); Brimstone Hill Fortress (lots of really interesting history and gorgeous views); an old rum distillery near Caribelle Batik (which is a boutique of island batik artwork and clothing on a lovely estate - also a lot of cool history with both of these spots); and we hiked up Mount Liamuiga to the rim of the volcano's long dormant crater J There is also a train that takes you around the entire island, but we didn't get a chance to ride that (wish we could have). Bassaterre was also fun to explore and we even enjoyed a day trip out to nearby Nevis. All in all, the house was lovingly decorated, well stocked with everything you would need to cook a great meal (which we did several times) and is safe and quiet. It was a great trip and we were glad we could spend it at the King's Retreat!
