Town: The village of Brompton-on-Swale is situated to the east of Richmond on the northern banks of the River Swale. Named in the Domesday Book, the village name is believed to have been derived from “broom” (the Shrub) and “tun” an old English word meaning farmstead or village. Today the village is home to a traditional pub and village shop. There are pleasant walks to be enjoyed around the village and along the riverside. The nearby ancient market town of Richmond is three miles away with its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' which enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character.
