“Great little cabin on one of the best spots on MDI”
This is our second time at the cabin. It’s absolutely fabulous. It’s a great place to spend long mornings taking your time and watching the loons :-)
“The quiet part of Acadia”
This was the best getaway vacation ever! Quiet, clean, simple yet well appointed. Schoodic Point was so much more enjoyable than the Bar Harbor side of Acadia, which was swarming with tourists and souvenir stores. Winter Harbor is serene, the hiking and biking trails are beautiful, the drive all along the coast is gorgeous with stunning and uncrowned vistas. Our hosts left thorough suggestions of where to go and what to do. We rode the ferry to Bar Harbor, gathered mussels, bought shedder lobsters from Bob down the highway, cooked it all at the cottage--everything you need to steam/boil lobsters is provided. Plenty of DVDs, books and games as well to entertain you if the weather keeps you indoors--but we never had that issue since it was sunny and warm the whole time. We look forward to returning soon!
“Great waterfront cabin!”
My husband and I stayed at Lee and Arletta's cabin for 7 days and we had a great time. The cabin is in the perfect location, the lake was truly magical, mirror calm at times with beautiful sunsets, and an amazing view in the morning. It's close enough to all the attractions at Mount Desert but still on the quieter side. The cabin is clean, has all the modern conveniences and comes with a canoe and paddles and has its own dock. The owners are really nice and helpful and were even willing to make an itinerary for us! We are already looking forward to going again!
Owner's reply: Great to have folks who really appreciate what the "Magic Lake" is all about. Do come back and stay again. We enjoyed having you
“Wonderful Vacation on Long Pond”
We had a wonderful time staying at Lee and Arletta's cabin. It was our first time in Mount Desert Island, and we came across the cabin online. After reading some of the reviews we contacted Lee, who was nothing but helpful. This sentiment continued when we arrived. Lee and Arletta did everything to make our vacation a great one. They recommended hikes, restaurants, and made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. The cabin came with a canoe, paddles and life jackets, which we took full advantage of, on the beautiful pond. The cabin itself was a great place to call home during on time on Mount Desert Island. The photographs do not do it justice, it was very spacious for two people, who were looking for a rustic vacation. It also had many amenities including a full kitchen and bathroom, with hot water in the shower. The front porch looks right onto the pond, and we spent much of our time there, eating, reading and taking in the scenery. After hiking, swimming, visiting the towns on the island, Lee and Arletta's cabin is the perfect place to come back to, cook dinner, and read a book under the stars. We highly recommend it.
Owner's reply: All of our guests are seem to enjoy the cabin! Thank You very Much for your great review!
“Quaint Rustic Cabin on Long Pond”
This spot is a gem with a converted old boat house, now a cabin. Rustic and basic, but with enough modern conveniences, it's a one room, cozy get away spot on pristine and enormous Long Pond, on Mount Desert Island in Maine's Acadia National Park area. Located only minutes from Southwest Harbor's shopping for what you may need. Beautiful pond front location with dock at your back door, on water's edge. Owners Lee and Arletta Wilbur are gracious, and helpful with a generous knowledge of the area. You will not be disappointed.
“Too short of a stay on Long Pond!!!”
This cabin is a cozy little charming cottage that at one time was a boat house which they converted for all to enjoy. Swim from the dock, launch a canoe from the ramp, or hang out on the deck over looking the lake. This is a little piece of heaven. Directly across the lake from cabin is the open wilderness side of Great Long Pond that Acadia National Park owns. This great little place lacks nothing in natural beauty. Mornings start with the local asylum of loons including babies piggy backed on mom and dad. We saw as many as 10 adults at a time, not including babies. Later in the afternoon we were joined by a Peregrine Falcon fishing while we were enjoying the same. I think his technique may be better than ours, although we were able to land several small mouth bass. Daily, we were visited by a duck and her 10 ducklings. Can't blame mom for bringing them around looking for a hand out, it's got to be tough feeding so many children. The hummingbirds are plentiful and require feeding daily as they have quite the appetite. Don't worry there is a recipe for this task if you are unfamiliar with feeding these very speedy little creatures. Right down the road is the Beech Cliff and Beech Mountain trails that takes you to a fire tower with views that are well worth a moderate climb! Acadia Mountain trail is a spectacular hike!! After hiking Acadia National Parks trails for about 30 years I have voted Acadia Mountain my favorite due to the ever changing views and a challenging climb. Again, just around the corner from the cabin. You must stop at the Organic Farm which is at the top of the driveway. We didn't get there until the end of our trip and wished we had gone at the beginning. Purchase veggies, meat, and some very special treats like pies, cookies, raw honey, and lots more. All you need to bring is your camera, binoculars, a swim suit, and a good pair of hiking shoes and you have a vacation! Lee and Arletta Wilbur are the consummate Inn keepers. We truly enjoyed chatting with them a few times during the week. Arletta just finished writing a children's book. Hope to see it in print soon!! Our stay was clean comfortable and relaxing. Looking forward to going again next year. Thanks for a great week Arletta and Lee!!! We wish you well! Bev and Tim Warner
“Just perfect”
Mountains, lakes, bike paths, fresh bread, a farm with wonderful pigs. Eggs and meat, cheese and veggies sold at the farm at the top of the drive, swimming, neighbors to greet, and good food in town to eat at night or any time. No street lights for night driving and remember there are deer peeking out of the woods. Movies in the other town. Blueberry pie baked by mom and kids in Southwest Harbor. Sold hot out of the oven and very heavy with berries
“Heavenly”
My husband & I spent a heavenly 7 days at this Long Pond cabin. It's a snug, simple place to relax on Long Pond and listen to the loons at night. Take the canoe out for an early morning paddle; it is inexpressably wonderful! Bring your own towels, linens and drinking water!!!
“My new happy place”
The cabin on Long Pond was wonderful. It's not fancy, but it is clean and comfortable and just right. The bed is soft, the view of the pond is gorgeous, and we never had to contend with a crowd. We loved taking the paddling around and swimming in the pond (much warmer than Maine's ocean water). Our favorite neighbors were the hummingbirds. Our favorite cabin amenities were the mosaic chicken lamp and the canoe.
“Love Long Pond”
This little cabin was just what we were looking for. Not too fancy, but right on the water (Long Pond). It was wonderful going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the loons (and the owl calls at night) and being on the water when it was as smooth as glass for kayaking. One room cabin, that comfortably slept our family of 3.
