Note: We are listed as a log cabin, but are a mountain home. VHR / Trip Advisor is correcting this shortly.
Our snow season is here! We have had 16 snow events at our 6000' elevation this season with more to come! Plan your 2017 getaway! There's currently 2+ feet of snow at Mt. Pino's! Carry chains if traveling to the area! We are also taking 'spring' weekend reservations... wildflowers should be awesome this year!
Welcome to ‘Sunset View at Pine Mountain Club’! Since 1/2006, we have shared our home with like-minded folks on another rental site, who recently began charging a large service fee to travelers, so we are sharing our home here – a "no service fee" site. We have 70+ reviews there; if you wish to view them, please email us.
If you’ve never heard of Pine Mountain Club, you’re not alone. Said to be one of Southern California’s best-kept secrets, or the nearby, faraway place, Pine Mountain Club is rich in history – located within the Chumash Wilderness in the Los Padres National Forest, wildlife abounds, as well as endless hiking trails, stair-gazing opportunities and nothing but nature to enjoy. The sunsets from our deck are incredible, hence the name ‘sunset view’! The quaint Village offers restaurants, shops, a pub, a market, an ice cream shop, as well as a laundromat along with a kid-friendly park. The clubhouse boasts a 9-hole PGA rated golf course, as well as a game room, tennis courts, a golf-course view restaurant and a seasonal community pool. Up to four (4) guest passes are included in the rental. NOTE: Two (2) night minimum.
Built 12/2003, our home is located at 6000’ and is two-story – very clean and well-maintained, beautifully decorated with quality mountain style furnishings and décor that blend with the mountain views. Speaking of views… our great room, with living / dining area along with an open-concept kitchen, looks out on awesome unobstructed mountain views. If you enjoy wildlife, you may see deer, bear, foxes, bobcats, as well as squirrels and a large variety of birds. Our newly rebuilt attached deck is right off of the great room and one of our favorite spots for viewing sunsets and star-filled night skies. There are no street lights in the area, which makes star-gazing a real treat! With a 40’ flat screen TV in the great room and TV’s in both bedrooms (all with extended cable), you will be in touch with the outside world, if you desire. Verizon now provides cell service and we provide Wi-Fi, so you’re all set.
Our home sleeps up to four (4) with two (2) private bedrooms (both with queen beds) and two baths – perfect for one or two couples or a small family of four (4). We supply blankets, comforters, pillows and throws – guests may elect linens (sheets / towels) for nominal fee. Hand and bath soap are provided!
Because this is our second home, we offer endless amenities, including, but not limited to: all paper products (TP, Kleenex, paper towels, foil, baggies, etc.), popcorn, hot chocolate, herbal teas, salt, pepper and sugar, as well as every appliance. We also provide beautiful dishes, glassware and silverware along with cookware and every utensil imaginable. A complete list of ‘offerings’ is provided to guests once reservation in confirmed.
Our landscape is beautifully maintained with wild sage, fragrant lavender, rosemary and wild mint. Our red maple is a sight to see in the fall! Our quiet street (mainly second homes) provides our guests peace and quiet – enjoy the sound of the wind in the pines or a pine cone rolling down the street.
With our four season climate, this is the perfect year-round escape from city life. You will enjoy wild flowers in the spring, mild summers, awesome fall colors and SNOW in the winter. Mt. Pino’s (8300’-8800’) is nearby and well-known by astronomers, as well as its cross-country skiing and snow-play opportunities when there’s snow. CHP requires that guests carry chains or have a 4X4 when accessing our area throughout the snow season.
While we consider our home a housekeeping cabin, guests will be given cleaning options when they inquire. We are dog-friendly (up to two dogs – 50lbs or less) for a small non-refundable pet fee. Please disclose dogs when inquiring.
Two (2) night minimum on all rentals - 6% occupancy tax and utilities are currently included in our rental rate. We offer credit card payments via Square (similar to PayPal, but much more secure) or personal checks if sent in time to clear. No employer checks accepted. We offer on-site check-in, as well as early check-in and late check-out whenever possible. We also offer return guest discounts along with discounts on week-long stays. This is our second home, so we cannot accommodate long-term (more than 10 day) guests.
Come experience ‘sunset view’ for yourself and one of Southern California’s best-kept secrets!

Cal, you will likely encounter snow in the Winter at our 6000+ elevation.) Please know that our roads are very well-maintained, but area CHP requires that you carry chains and/or have a 4x4 vehicle when snow is possible. Snow shovels are provided. PMC Security patrols 24 / 7.

“A treasure in the mountains!”
I cannot express enough how much we enjoyed our stay at Sunset View! What a great place to celebrate my birthday with my two sons and our dogs! Lori, the owner was so accommodating and welcoming from the get-go. It truly felt like we were not just merely renting a place in the mountains, it was more like Lori and Tim were sharing their home with us. This is definitely not your typical mountain cabin, the decor and cleanliness surpass the typical rental by far, and the heated mattress pads and down comforters were such an added delight. It was so nice to unplug, relax and leave the hustle and bustle behind. The views out of every window were amazing and the night sky was absolutely breath-taking. It was great to just go out back into the yard to sled and play in the snow. Feeding peanuts, which were left by Lori, to the bluejays was another unexpected joy. Early morning walks with our dogs up and down the hills in the neighborhood were a treat. Should you require anything you might have forgotten to pack, a walk down to the nearby village to the bakery or market will fit the bill. My goal for this trip was to create memories with my boys that we could all go back and revisit for years to come, and I have to say that mission was most definitely accomplished, ie, on our last morning my youngest said, "thanks Mom for this trip, I'm never going to forget this place." This trip exceeded my expectations and I am already looking forward to going back again next January. Thanks again, Lori and Tim, for sharing your lovely mountain home with us!
Owner's reply: Ana Maria - thank you for your lovely review! It warms our heart to share our home with folks like you who simply wish to enjoy the view, stargaze, and, yes, make special memories. And, as you know, our home backs to protected forest - when there's snow, our backyard is a private winter wonderland; so happy that you were able to enjoy a snowy stay! You are always welcome - do come back! God bless!
My wife and I recently stayed here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the beginning, when I first inquired about the property, Lori was a pleasure to deal with. Very thoughtful and helpful, and super responsive. When we arrived we were so excited to unwind and relax at the cabin. We were not disappointed .We really enjoyed the deck, where we made fast friends with the local birds. My wife loved feeding them peanuts which Lori provided in the freezer. I grilled on both days and it was just magical to listen to the serene quiet sounds of mother nature. We were able to truly relax and forget about work and city life. I found that we had all the conveniences of home in the comfy cabin, including cable TV. Also there's a nice market and bakery right down the street. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We can't wait to come back and visit again!
Owner's reply: Thanks so much for your review, Sven. Pine Mountain Club is said to be 'one of Southern California's best-kept secrets'... and so convenient to LA. You're always welcome!
