Description from owner

"It is the marriage of the soul with Nature that makes the intellect fruitful, and gives birth to imagination." Henry David Thoreau

Welcome to Walden! A place that combines the beauty of the natural world with the warmth of a modern cabin. Located on 54 acres along the historic Shenandoah River, Walden offers one of the most spectacular retreats in the valley.

Completed in 2013, Walden is a deluxe one bedroom cabin that is timeless. Nature prevails through every window with the sweeping views of the land that surrounds you. From the moment you arrive the feeling is captivating. Walden offers a spacious living room with natural wood cathedral ceilings, a gas log fireplace, flat screen (satelite) TV, DVD, High Speed Wireless Internet and Stereo. The kitchen is fully equipped and for dining you have the option of eating inside, or just a step away, you can dine outside on an 8x12 screen porch. The bedroom has a queen bed, ceiling fan and 14 foot cathedral ceilings. Walk through the patio door on to the front porch and settle into a warm, relaxing hot tub. The bathroom has a gorgeous step in tile shower with a gentle flowing rain style shower head.

A gradual walk through the field will take you to the river where you can relax under the shade of the sycamore trees, dip your feet into the Shenandoah or have a relaxing evening around a fire. (The riverfront is solely for the use of our guest at Walden and Sundance. #61496. Although Walden and Sundance share the riverfront, the two cabins are completely private from one anther.)

Walden is a place where you can understand what Thoreau meant when he wrote, "Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself the influences of each"

“A place of natural beauty and quite.”

Upon arriving you feel relaxed. All the amenities we needed and then some (fresh cookies!) were there. We had a family of rabbits visit every morning. Thank you for sharing a piece of heaven with us. Have to say that the cleanliness is impeccable. Thanks again!

“Absolutely Amazing”

WOW is how I will start this review. This place was a hidden gem. I wanted to go somewhere quiet to relax and celebrate my birthday with my husband and this was the place! Secluded, Quiet, and Relaxing. The cabin was very spacious, very clean and well stocked with things we needed for our week long stay. Waking up each morning to the beautiful sunrise and the birds singing in the trees along side of the house was amazing. Drinking coffee each morning from the hot tub and relaxing in it in the evening what more can you ask for. The cabin was very modernized and it was great having a laundry facility in the cabin. We visited Luray Caverns which was about a 15 min drive, we also went into town (Luray) and shopped at the local grocer. We also drove through the Shenandoah Mountains which was only about another 30 minutes away. We also enjoyed reading the journal on the table of all the people who had visited in the past (and the find the dollar game was fun - I found $3). We took our cat Gus who loved the screened in porch, but didn't like seeing the family of deer so close to the front porch (he hid under the bed for a whole day). We did bring our own bed linen, towels, and toiletries which made it really feel like being right at home. I'm so glad that my husband and I found this place and we look forward to bringing our grandkids back next year. It's well worth the price!

“Perfect getaway”

Reviewed 1 Dec 2014

This was the second year we spent Thanksgiving week at Walden (plus 4th of July week this year), and we really feel like this is our much needed respite from stress and worry! The cabin is beautiful and nicely decorated - without the clutter you see in a lot of rental options. There are a lot of nice touches like the gas fireplace, fully loaded kitchen, great shower/bathroom, screened in porch, hot tub, fire pit right by the house and fire pit by the river. The only thing that would make it even better would be a hammock so I can laze/read in the sun. The owners are great to work with and have helped us with restaurant recommendations. Our dog loves the wide open fields to romp around in and had her first swim in the river this past July. We have recommended this cabin to everyone we know looking to get away for a weekend or week. It is such an easy 1.5 hour drive from DC, and you can conveniently stop at the Apple House on the way in for apple donuts.

“Luray getaway”

We were extremely happy with this property and the location. The cabin was easy to get to and the walk to the river was an easy one too. There was firewood for the fire pit and a gas grill in the screened porch. I highly recommend this peaceful property!

“Romantic retreat”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2013

The cabin was very nice and cozy. The river was beautiful. It was nice that the owners supplied the wood for the outside fire.

Owner's reply: We are glad you enjoyed your time at our cabin. With having just finished building Walden, we had a lot of extra firewood around and we were glad we could provide it for your stay. There is nothing like an evening around a fire under the stars. Thank you for choosing Woodside Cabins for your getaway.
