“Beautiful Views and Tons of Amazing House for a Getaway”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2017

Around 25 friends and I had a great time at Tom's house in Saugerties this past July (2017). The house is situated at the top of a hill and overlooks Woodstock, making for beautiful sunsets and gorgeous views of the surrounding area. The house is perfect for large groups looking to escape and get outside for a weekend. The house was clean, spacious, and the lands were well-kept. We also had a few people sleep in the second house on the property, which really came in handy. Tom was extremely attentive to all of our needs before, during, and after our stay. We spent around 45 minutes on the phone solely talking about recommendations for the nearby area! He ended up giving us all of our ideas for itinerary for the weekend. We went on a group hike by the nearby monastery Saturday morning, took a tour of the monastery in the early afternoon, and cooled off in a nearby watering hole before dinner. We then came home and prepared a big dinner on his grill, enjoying the sunset and a few beers. A few people took advantage of the hot tub and we made fires in the firepit both nights. Per Tom's recommendation, I would try to be mindful of noise levels, as we found out that our voices and music really reverberated from the top of the hill to the rest of the town below. Overall, we were incredibly pleased with our stay at Tom's cabin and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun weekend in the woods.

“Great location, but house needs a face lift and a serious deep cleaning!”

Reviewed 16 Jun 2017

Sixteen of us stayed at this property from June 2-4. The exterior of the house is perfect. There is a lot of space outside. The grass was cut. The fire pit area was well kept and the chairs were great. The house is on about 21 acres. We saw a black bear cub, deer, and turkey on the property, close to the house. The view from the kitchen and the back deck is spectacular! Now, the interior of the house is another story. It was dusty, the beds were unkept, large cobwebs, dirty floors, and bathrooms needed a deep cleaning and floor mats (none were present). I spent 2 solid hours cleaning before I felt it was decent enough for us to move our stuff into the house. Tom needs a professional cleaning TEAM to manage the upkeep of the house. It may raise the price of the rental a bit, but it will be well worth it. Sweeping, proper bathroom cleaning, dusting, mopping is a must prior to guests staying at a home. No one likes spending time in a dirty space. We also did not use the hot tub, because the water did not look clean. The pictures that represent the house need to be updated, because it is not an accurate representation. We really enjoyed the outdoors, but we also expect a clean space for cooking and sleeping.

“House Review”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2016

Thomas, the owner, was great to work with. He responded immediately to all my questions and communication was great throughout the whole process. A large group of us younger people rented both properties for the weekend. The houses were perfect for what we were doing and there was more than enough room for all of us to gather in the large house to drink and hang out. The beds were all comfortable and everyone has a place to sleep comfortably. The land where the larger house sits is open and well out of the way of any neighbors or other houses. The view is great and, weather pending, the porch is large enough for everyone to gather and grill out. There were plenty of dishes and everything necessary to cook with as well as laundry machines in the basement. The floor plan on the larger houses upper level is very open which allows for plenty of room. There is a large hot tub, but we did not use it. Overall the experience was great, no problems with the house, plenty of room and all necessary amenities and the owner was great with regard to communication. Plus, for the price, you can't get anything better.

“Big, Simple House, Great View”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2015

I came with a group of around 20 people, (ages: 21-26) and rented both houses on the property but even the main house had more than enough room for people to sleep. I was really surprised but we never felt crowded especially since the deck was so open and the living room/ kitchen had an open lay-out. The hot tub and air-conditioning worked perfectly- I suggest you turn up the temperature at night because it might even be too cold. Tom, the owner, was available via text or phone call and instructed us with what to do with the garbage, who to contact for firewood, etc. Check-out was promptly at noon (great because other houses say 10 or 11am) but since we took longer packing up than expected, we got to meet Tom and his daughter who was patiently waiting to clean up/prepare for the next tenants. We had about 4 huge garbage bags and it was difficult to drive them down to the shed/dumpster area so Tom even volunteered to use his pick-up and throw it out for us. The house is awesome and would 10/10 rent again. It's truly a no-frills house but it has what you need: beds, clean bathrooms, working AC, wifi, towels, etc. We just brought our own kitchen stuff because we weren't sure what they'd have but if you're not too picky- they have pots/ pans. Bring your own seasonings/ oil though. We couldn't figure out some appliances but that's probably on us since we didn't contact Kurt (the caretaker on the property- no worries cause he lives all the way on the other side of the lot) to help. We never saw him except to tend to the horses close to the house. We enjoyed the privacy a lot. Things I'd do differently: don't leave the door open at night, moths will come in since they're attracted to light, bring extra towels, bug spray, and those anti-bug lamps. Other than that, you're pretty much set. Loved the house and the view! Close drive to the town and "beach" (lake). We'll definitely be back.
