About the area

Louisburg is a farming community just. 25 minutes from Kansas City. It is a town of 4,500 residents with many churches and several eateries including Timbercreek Restaurant and Bar featuring live music on week ends, and a Farmers Market. Louisburg is the home of the Powell Observatory and Telescope, one of the largest privately owned scopes in the country. It is a tourist destination for the Louisburg Cider Mill and Tiger Cove, a tiger preserve. Nearby are three attractions, 1) Summerset Winery and Tasting Room 2) The Mine Creek Battlefield and Historical Monument of the Civil War. 3) The Overland Park Arboretum . There is also the Steamship Arabia Museum which is a fascinating look at a recovered Paddle wheel Steamship that sank in the Missouri River in the mid 1800's. It is the only museum of its kind as excavation of sunken steamships is almost impossible as when the wreckage hits air it discentergrates. The method of salvage is remarkable and innovative. The Museum is privately family owned. Nearby in Kansas City is the WWI Memorial which is one of the very few in our nation. It is know as the Liberty Memorial. It is the nation's only public Museum dedicated to WWI. Also not to be missed is the Ccountry Club Plaza designed by J.C. Nichols in 1928 after he returned from a trip to Spain and Morocco. The Plaza is the Country's first shopping center and is done in replication of both Spanish and Moroccan architecture with which Mr. Nichols was enamored. Kansas City is known as "The City of Fountains" having more fountains than Rome, many of which are located in the Plaza.
